POLARITIES
Polarities 2023-2024 is presented in celebration of the ten year anniversary of the ‘Concours national de la danse’, CND Luxembourg. Two-part program at the ‘Théâtre de la Ville d’Esch-sur-Alzette’ celebrating and highlighting female choreographers who are often invisible in a predominantly male choreographic world, Harriet Macauley presented Polarities, a new contemporary dance work supported by rehearsals and a creation period at Ultima Vez, Brussels.
New contemporary dance work “Polarities” premiered at ‘’Women in Choreography’’ at the Theater in Esch-sur-Alzette in Luxembourg. Polarities is set on a cast of 10 dancers and is influenced from research, residencies and creations accumulated as part of a One Year Performance Program with Choreographer Harriet Macauley of InDance International, Barcelona, Spain.
Can Clariana Cultural is a citizen-managed Civic Center with two axes that characterises its projects, Citizen Participation and Performing Arts. Located in the Congrés-Indians neighborhood, we delivered a diverse cultural dance program for the local community in collaboration with Dance Artists in Spain.
Polarities was Collaboration a dynamic and interactive exchange of ideas, viewpoints, and skills with Harriet Macauley and a group of pre-professional dancers during the making process. It is a dynamic and interactive exchange of ideas, viewpoints in the making process. Different music, cultural backgrounds and artistic viewpoints surfaced. Each dancer contributed their distinct voice and area of strength in the new work, to encourage a sense of ownership and investment in Polarities.
Dancers shared intimate creative details and feelings within the creation of the movement content and choreography. It provided a foundation for each dancer to build trust and vulnerability in the process of realisation.
Working with the dancers of 2023-2024 created rewarding and enriching dance works for InDance International. Diverse voices, bodies, and experiences were combined to create an inventive and powerful dance piece. The advantages were to bring out individual development, group learning, and the production of meaningful and vibrant experiences.
The value of musicality is emphasised in Polarities, as method of understanding and interpretation of movement textures, rhythm, flow and contrast and for performers to gain a deeper comprehension of movement dynamics and qualities.
In Polarities each dancer was offered the opportunity to show case their talent by dancing a solo or duet. The result was measured through confidence, application and delivery in performances in Belgium, Barcelona and Luxembourg from September 2023 to March 2024.

Polarities at the Luxembourg Théâtre d'Esch 2023-2024
Supported by Espai 30, in La Sagrera neighbourhood InDance International was able to create a produce a studio base video shoot to support the marketing of the new work for performances in Europe. Espai 30 was created around 2010, and is a cultural space in La Sagrera, located within the three naves and which was thought of being called Espai 30. It is a shelter for the neighbourhood’s residents and for culture and creativity.
